Infrequent Chat – Sunday 26 February 2017: Nerf War Likes/Dislikes

$

0

When: Sunday, February 26th at 12 PM Eastern (9AM Pacific, 4PM in GMT)
Where: #nerfhaven IRC channel on irc.darkmyst.org (use this link or direct your client to this server to join)

Topic: What's the best way to run a war? What do you (or your local hosts) find effective, and what don't you find effective? There's lots of stuff to talk about here (picking teams, remembering names, dartsweeping, different levels of preparation needed for rounds to start).

As usual we will be talking about anything nerf related that comes up, and answering any questions.  This topic is just a guideline and jumping-off point.

If you would just like to use a real IRC client instead of the web interface linked above, I recommend downloading Pidginor mIRC. mIRC is a Windows IRC client. Pidgin is a mutli-protocol chat client that works on most platforms and connects to google chat, AIM, IRC and others (facebook chat support available with 3rd party plugin). There are also plenty of IRC clients for Android and iOS. Just enter irc.Darkmyst.org as the server and join the #NerfHaven channel. You may also take a look at IRCCloud, which is a web based service that lets you stay logged in to the IRC channel even when you're not online.

Nerf Stryfe discontinued???

Looking online, and in local shops, everyone seems to be out of stock. Is this the end of the nerf Stryfe? It's become such a staple in the community I can't imagine hasbro killing it off.

What are the most powerful out-of-box or slightly modded blasters?

So, I'm just wondering what are some of the best out-of-box or slightly modded blasters are in other peoples opinions.

My bet is the Faux-Bow, which I posted about a long time ago.

Let's list off the pros:

1. Plunger tube is probably bigger than a X-Bow

2. Comes with skirt seal

3. Spring is massive

4. The barrel is so easy to couple(all you have to do is cut down barrel; 1/2" CPVC has tight fit into it, and wants to pop out, but our friend hot glue can fix that; Put either 1/2" CPVC coupler onto it, or a piece of 1/2" PVC and 1/2" PVC coupler if you use 1/2" PVC barrels; Then, if you like, epoxy/epoxy putty/more hot glue)

Now cons:

1. No catch mechanism...

(This turned into a Faux-Bow review really fast..)

So yeah, explain what other blasters are really good out-of-box

I declined to put up a pool and just decided to do this. We're going to use the same topic again because it seemed like people were into that.

Where: #nerfhaven IRC channel on irc.darkmyst.org (use this link or direct your client to this server to join)

Nerf blaster types?

Hey gang, after a very lengthy hiatus I have returned...I did some searching and did not see a current topic for this and thought I pick some wise Nerfer brains:

I have gotten into Nerf FPS videos  (Aaron Esser on YouTube has some very popular ones based on CoD) and it got me to thinking about compiling some info to create some FPS videos with friends. I thought of making one with just Pistols (more of a Goldeneye ruleset I think) and started looking up pistol type Nerf blasters and wanted some insight on what blasters would be the ideal fit for that? Thanks

Thanks in advance guys!

LEDs Question

I'm looking to put LED lighting in two clear Vulcans as part of my overhaul. Given the size of the blaster and the number of LEDs involved I'm thinking of using several parallel circuits to help alleviate voltage drop. I've got two questions about this:

1. Is it actually worth usng parallel circuits, or is the voltage drop between LEDs so small as to make it trivial? I'm expecting to use around 25 LEDs all up with its own power source.

2. If I do use, say, 5 parallel circuits of 5 LEDs conected in series to each other - with each one being a 5mm red LED - what's the recommended input voltage (I'll be using lithium ion batteries)

Thanks in advance.

Air Blasters

I am trying to find a suitably small and cheap air blaster and was wondering what more knowledgeable nerfers knew about the performance of some. I have heard about some but have no idea of the performance of them.

Shopping in the USA

Hi folks,

I am putting this one here, because I don't want to buy / sell on the NH Marketplace, but ask for advise on shopping in the USA.

I will do several short trips (work related) during April and would like to get some stuff for my hobby.

Things I am most looking for:

- Brass tube 1/2" with a good dart fit for Elite / Koosh 3rd

- Buzzbee Boss (or Tyrant) and 12 round Magazines / refills http://www.buzzbeetoys.com/USglobal/AirWarriors_RefillPacks/58800-14-air-max-dart-refill+clip.html

- Buzzbee Mini Marshmallow attack ;-)

Can anybody suggest a shop to go to (in Detroit area)? I won't have much time.

My backup-plan for the blasters / Magazines is ordering them to be delivered to the hotel via amazon.com

Also I need a replacement belt for my Overlord - a buddy ran his car over mine :-( - I was told to mail a check in US$, which I can't get from my Bank at home. Can someone just walk into a Bank in the US, give them 20$ in cash or by MasterCard and get a check that I can send by mail?

Replacing broken/ripped O-Rings

$

I wrote this out to answer this question elsewhere and thought it might be good to store it here.

IF you break/rip/tear and O-Ring and you need to find a replacement for it, here's how you can do so.

1. Use a ruler to measure the length of the broken o-ring piece inside of the curve.

2. Use that length with this calculator set to "Given C"  http://www.calculatorsoup.com/calculators/geometry-plane/circle.php

3. Write that number down as you now have the actual ID of the O-Ring (or close to it).

4. Measure the thickness of the O-Ring as best you can. This number will be close to either a fractional size, or a millimeter size. It's best if you can use a caliper to get this number, but a ruler with both inches and millimeters will do. Always make sure to round DOWN to the nearest fraction or millimeter since o-rings are oversized. For example a "3/16" cord width O-Ring is going to have a NOMINAL width of .210".

5. Write that number down.

6. Take both numbers and poke through the McMaster catalog in the o-ring section. You can find the nearest ACTUAL SIZE for Inner Diameter from their list as well as the ACTUAL (or fractional) cord width.

https://www.mcmaster.com/#o-rings/=172uud9

Just pick BUNA-N as your material for now. The majority of the o-rings used for Nerf are that material.

dash.jpg

Now you have the DASH NUMBER of the o-ring you need. You can order the o-ring you need from McMaster, Amazon, Fastenal, or buy it from a hardware store. If you want to buy the o-ring from Home Depot you may need this chart to convert from DASH NUMBER sizes to the Danco brand o-ring part numbers.

http://captainslug.com/nerf/danco_o-rings_reference.xlsx

Other brands may have different part numbers so check your nearest hardware store's online catalog before going to see what brand of o-rings they sell. If they don't list the products in DASH number sizes just e-mail the manufacturer and ask them for a similar conversion chart.

Demolisher absolver

Does anyone know of how to make an absolver for the demolisher hamp? I don't really know what I would use and suggestions and material list would help. There aren't really any good guides on this and I know I would want a coupler but not sure how to make the multi barrel system.

To clarify, what I'm asking here is I understand I need a coupler system, and I need a bunch of a certain size of other couplers to make different attachments, but I'm wondering what I would use and how I would do it

Longshot stage 3 kit?

$

Hello, does anyone have any information on the Orange Mod works stage 3 kit for the Longshot? From what I have heard over their Facebook, it's expected to be released this year. The contents are a possible plunger tube replacement and a new breech?

Thanks,
Bubba
